According to the United Nations, at least 8 million tons of plastic are leaked into the ocean every year, the equivalent of a truckload of plastic waste dumped into the sea every second. Marine pollution puts all Marine life at risk of poisoning and death, and these toxins eventually enter the human body through the food chain.
Oceans cover nearly three-quarters of the earth and account for 97 percent of the planet's water resources, and more than 3 billion people depend on them. In China, Marine protection organizations are still in their infancy.
