In addition to the absence of lower Paleozoic Upper Ordovician, Upper Paleozoic Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, Upper Permian, Mesozoic Triassic and Upper Cretaceous strata in Zhangjiakou city, all strata from Archaean to Cenozoic are exposed, with a total thickness of 35978-51866 meters. The strata exposed in Zhangjiakou city also include a wide range of rock types, including archaean metamorphic rocks, proterozoic, Paleozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary rocks, contact metamorphic rocks and local dynamic metamorphic rocks around the intrusion, as well as mixed rocks formed by hypermetamorphism. The magmatic rocks are mainly Mesozoic and Cenozoic extrusive rocks, luliang, Hercynian, Yanshanian granites and dikes of different lithology.
